Vincent Acceptances The- acceptances for the first day of the Vincent meeting are due to-day. Half Brother to Mobile ' Roseman, who won the Trial Handicap at Wyndham, is a half-brother to a good sprinter in Mobile, who had to be destroyed last season. An Enlarged Leg Daring Deed has an enlarged leg, and although she was not really lame, it was decided to take no risks with her and she was not asked to fulfil holiday engagements. Out of Hack Company Rebel Lad has made his last appearance in hack races. He ran out of that class when he won at Wingatui, but was eligible to run out his nominations at Waikouaiti and Oamaru. The Robespierre gelding has raced very consistently since his return from Australia, and as he is a sound stayer he should be able to add to, his winnings. A Smart Galloper The Lord Warden—Set Sail filly, Sailing Lady, who bumped her rider off at the start at Wyndham, justified her private reputation by a convincing win in the New Year Handicap at Invercargill. She was not prominent early, but she ran up behind the pacemakers, Western Song and Golden Song, at the top and galloped away in the straight to win by a good margin from Mona’s Song, who finished well to beat Western Song and Golden Song. Sailing Lady is a rather fractious three-year-old but she is a smart galloper. New Pony Courses in England Racing under Pony Turf Club rules has proved so'popular in England that arrangements are well advanced for the erection of new courses at Worsley (near Manchester) and Sheffield. Both will be on the lines of the successful Northolt Park track, and will be complete racecourses under proper control. Plans for Worsley, which will be the first pony course in the North of England under Pony Turf Club rules, provides for an elliptical tyack, about a mile and a-half in circumference, and an almost straight finish of five furlongs. Replied in French At the Gimcrack dinner, held at York, in November, M, Marcel Boussac, as owner of Goya 11, winner of the Gimcrack Stakes, was the guest of honour. M. Boussac, in replying to the toast of the winner, spoke in French. “It is the first public speech I have ever made,” he said, “and I must apologise for not being able to speak in English. I was not a very attentive pupil at school and even at that early stage in my career I preferred the perusal of sporting newspapers to that of Goethe.” A plea that racing should be made more international came in his speech. He would like to see at Ascot and at the Newmarket Second October meeting respectively races over one mile and ahalf (for classic winners of all countries) that would be. a counterpart of ) the Gold Cup and of the French Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe. American Hope for National International flavour adds zest to any big race, and English critics are now discussing the prospects of Battleship, winner of an American Grand. National, in next year’s Grand National at Aintree. Mrs Marion Scott, owner of the horse, however, has s'ated that Battleship was not shipped, across the Atlantic specially for the National, and that he will be nominated for that race only if all goes-well with him. He broke down in America tvvo years ago, and as he could not be trained on ine hard ground in that country, it was decided to test him on the softer tracks in England. The move is likely to bcai fruit, as Battleship, who is described as one of the best-looking , jumpers sent from America, was an unlucky loser of the Oteley Steeplechase at Liverpool recently. He looked to have the race won approaching the second last fence, but took off too soon and parted company with his jockey. War Vessel, who left America as a companion for Battleship, was not considered of, much account in his homeland, but he has already begun to pay the expenses of his English trip, Wellington Nominations Nominations for the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting and forfeits for the Wellington Stakes will be taken up to 5 p.m. to-morrow. One to Remember Rebel Mate, who would have beaten Yale in another stride in the Trial Stakes at Oamaru, is a speedy.-looking four-year-old gelding by Robiespierre from Seaside) a Stonyhurst-bred mare by Autumnus from Telescope, by Martian from Weathereye, by Maxim from Galatea, by Apremont. He. is still in the green stage, but he will be more prominent later in the season. A Smart Two-year-old Yale, winner of the maiden event at Oamaru on Saturday, was bred by Mr George Gould, and, after being raced twice by him, was presented to her present owner, Mr D. W. J. Gould, who left her in J. Shaw’s stable. Saturday was the first occasion the new owner was represented in a race - under his own colours, black with white cap. Yale is a two-year-old filly by Lord Warden from Dutch Money, by Paper Money from the Nassau mare Dutch Clock. She was only one of two two-year-olds in the race, and in beating a fairly strong field of older horses after being on 6 of the leaders throughout, she displayed stamina as well as speed.
