FOOT AMPUTATED <Pe» United Press '’association! THAMES, Dec. 14. While alighting from a train at the Thames station at 8.45 last night, Leading Telegraphist Glyndwr Harris, of the warship Dunedin, slipped and fell between the platform and the bogey of a carriage, suffering severe injuries to his back and legs. He was sent to the hospital where his foot was amputated. He was returning by a special train from a Labour Party rally at Mount Maunganul. ' / MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENTS MAN KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED (Peb United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 14. Two motor cycle accidents, in which one man was killed and another was seriously injured, occurred within a few miles of Opunake this evening. The man who was fatally injured was Jack Devereaux. aged about 33, of Stratford, while A. R. Membery, aged 22. of Rahotu, was seriously injured. Membery was riding a motor cycle between Warea and Pungarehu. when he took a corner widely. The footrest of the machine struck a post, and the rider was thrown heavily on the road. He is believed to have a fractured skull and to be suffering from concussion and other injuries. Devereaux, who was employed as a builder at Stratford, was riding a motor cycle a few miles on the other side of Opunake when the machine crashed from some unknown cause. He was found unconscious on the road by a service car driver, and was rushed to the Hawera Hospital, where he died from a fractured skull and other severe head Injuries.
