NOTES FROM RICCARTON
(Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 2. Riccarton recovers quickly after even heavy rain, and this was again demonstrated this morning. The ground has dried up rapidly, and if the weather remains fine the tracks should be in good order to-morrow, when there should be some useful galloping. F. D. Jones expects to sprint Gustos, Cerne Abbas, and the two-year-old Royal Chief to-morrow. Provided they go on all right, he will make a trip to Auckland with these three horses. T. Lloyd will leave this week on his North Island trip. He will follow his usual custom of racing Tout le Monde, Invoice, and In the Dark at Woodville next week, after, which he will remain for the Manawatu and Marton meetings. C. T. Wilson will do the riding at Woodville, and will return, as he has arranged to be at the Dunedin, Wyndham. and Invercargill meetings in the holidays. F. Christmas, has not completed his plans for the holidays, but it is probable that he will have four horses for the West Coast. Those in mind for the trip are Epic, Glenavon, and the Dolomite—Miss Bradbury gelding (named Kairangi), with Sunny Land as a possible fourth. No programme will be mapped out for Manetho until it is seen how he races at Hororata next week.
Glenavon’s half-sister by Colossus has had a few short sprints, and, after spelling over the holidays, she will be given a more serious trial with a view to racing later in the season. She has been named Glenogil. S. Barr is likely to race some of his horses at southern meetings, but the constitution of his team will not be definitely settled until next week. P. V. Mason has an Auckland trip in view for the holidays, and he is working three members of his team the reverse way in preparation for the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting. Roaming and Lofty, a couple of four-year-olds, showed useful hack form at Riccarton last month, with prospects that both of them, with a special preference for Roaming, will pay their way during the four days at Ellerslie. The third member of the party will be Merry March, a tvvo-year-old by Nightmarch from Kilmiss. He had a couple of races at Riccarton, showing a fine burst of speed for nearly half a mile in the Spring Nursery Handicap. The three horses will race for Mr A. Louisson, though Merry March was bred by his brother, Mr C. Louisson, of Palmerston North.
