BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

SLIGHTLY BETTER MARKET FAT CATTLE A fairly large yarding numbering 309 head was forward, the bulk comprising mainly cows and heifers. The quality was not up to last week s standard, there being only a few prime sorts, with a fairly Targe tail-end. Included in the yarding was a superior entry of ox beef, there being a good proportion of heavy-weights and prime medium bullocks forward. Generally the sale for prime was 10s to 15s ahead of last week’s rates on the average, while values for other descriptions ruled in buyers’ favour. Quotations: Extra prime heavy bullocks, to £l6 7s 6d; prime, £l3 to £l4 10s; medium, £lO to £ll 10s; light, from £8; prime cows and heifers, to £9 17s 6d: medium, £5 15s to £7; light, from £3 2s 6d.

FAT SHEEP The entry in this section approximated 1550 and was comprised in the main of prime descriptions, with ewes in numerical strength over wethers. There was also a small proportion of light and inferior classes. For best butchers’ sheep a good sale resulted and prices generally were Is better than those obtaining last week. Over the final stages, however, there was an easing in values of Is on opening rates. There were practically no consignments of woollies forward.
