THE DISTILLERY FIRE
ESTIMATE OF DAMAGE BRISBANE, Nov. 23. Not a drop of spirit was saved in the destruction of the Millaquin distillery. Half a million proof gallons of rum, 150,000 gallons of white and methylated spirits, and 100,000 gallons of fermenting liquid were consumed. The damage is now estimated at £200,000, but the potential loss of rum, had it gone into consumption and had the duty been charged, would have been in excess of £2,000,000. The insurance on stock, plant, machinery, and building totalled £144,000. SYDNEY WOOL SALES SYDNEY, Nov. 23. (Received Nov. 24, at 0.15 a.m.) At the wool sales 13,180 bales were offered and 12,547 sold, while 1864 were disposed of privately. Prices for super wools were fully maintained, while all average fleece wools and skirtings showed an advance of 5 per cent, above the closing rates of last week. Faulty wools lost their irregularity. Competition from the Continent was stronger, likewise American. Greasy merino made 29d. The average price last week was £2l 16s lOd a bale, or 17.3 d per lb.
