PROFESSIONAL GOLF
THE AMERICAN TITLE WON BY DENSMORE SHUTE NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (Received Nov. 23, at 11.45 p.m.) A message from Pinehurst, North Carolina, says Densmore Shute, the professional, of Braeburn Club, Massachusetts, defeated Jimmy Thompson 3 and 2 in a 36-hole round, to win the National Professional Golfers’ Association title. Among the other competitors was Horton Smith. Shute’s fine tee shots, skilful iron shots and 30-foot putts enabled him to win handily. He is the son of a professional, gained national recognition as an amateur in 1923, and won the British Open in 1932.
