MR CHARLES ("CHIC") SALE HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 8. (Received Nov. 8, at 11 p.m.) The death is reported of Mr Charles ("Chic") Sale. Mr Charles Sale, or to use his Hollywood soubriquet, Chic Sale, was one of the lesser luminaries of the motion picture firmament. He was more of a character than a notability, and owed what prominence he achieved to a flair for humour of a broad, almost Rabelaisian character His quaint bent form and conveniently flexible and collapsible legs were his chief stock-in-trade, but he was not without a certain screen personality, which made him one of the more popular of the old screen favourites who have found themselves jettisoned by Hollywood's changing favours and fads. He will be remembered for his short comedies, and latterly for some highly sentimental fantasies of the most fragmentary kind.
