OLYMPIA MOTOR SHOW
OUTSTANDING SUCCESS GREAT VOLUME OF ORDERS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Oct. 18. The Duke of Kent paid a visit to the Motor Show at Olympia and spent more than an hour among the vast crowds which, judging by the volume of orders received by the manufacturers, must contain a higher proportion of buyers, both home and overseas, than ever before. One firm has already taken orders estimated at £12,000,000. Overseas inquiries have been such a feature of the show that the staff of interpreters has been increased. A GREAT BOOM PREDICTED LONDON, Oct. 19. ('Received Oct. 20, -at 0.45 a.m.) A sensational boom in the British motor industry is predicted for the Coronation year. The Daily Mail’s motoring editor says 150,000 unemployed will be restored to work in 1937 owing to the unparalleled success of the motor show , An official said that an all-round employment increase of 10 per cent, was assured if the show business continued as it had begun. So fai British exhibitors have sold nearly 400,000 cars, exceeding the whole of the previous year’s output. This represents £50,000,000. It is expected that the show business will total £88,000,000.
