GERMAN WOOL STOCKS
A SERIOUS SHRINKAGE EXPORT DIFFICULTIES LONDON, Oct. 18, , The Associated Press correspondent in Berlin says a serious shrinkage in German wool stocks, owing to inability to obtain foreign exchange to pay for the imports, is shown in the German Wool Trade Association statistics, which disclose that the stocks of combed materials, chiefly crossbreds, held by five German combing works decreased during September from 4,508,000,0001 b to 4,028,000,000 compared with 10,263,000,000 held in September, 1935. The scoured wool held by 10 German scouring works decreased during September from 4,503,000,000 pounds to 4,244,(100,000, compared with 8,226,000,000 held in September, 1935. The fal) consisted chiefly of 2,125,000,0001 b of crossbreds. It is problematical whether Germany will be able to replenish her stocks under the present circumstances, but five large cellulose wool factories, which are the starting point of both synthetic wool and cotton, recently have begun operating, with a sixth building at Seigburg. They aim at an output of 80,000 tons of cellulose wool a year by the end of 1937, which will be enough in an emergency to cover half Germany’s needs in wool.
