OTAGO RUGBY UNION
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Dr Perry) occupied the chair. The chairman stated that the subcommittee appointed by the Management Committee to visit Palmerston to discuss with the Eastern District Sub-union its desire to secede from the Otago Union and join up with the North Otago Union had met members of the sub-union at the week-end. • The meeting had been of a most -amicable nature, and from the discussion it appeared that there had not been unanimity among the clubs affiliated with the subunion in the proposal to secede from the Otago Union. It had been finally agreed that the question of secession from the Otago Union should be held in abeyance till next year, when the clubs affiliated to the subunion would be given an opportunity at their annual meetings of discussing the proposal. The decisions of the clubs would be forwarded to th' sub-union, and it, in turn, would send on the result to the Otago Union. It was explained to the subunion that if the majority of the clubs were in favour of secession there would be no objection by the Otago Union. Mr H. Harris said that individual members of clubs had been approached by the sub-union and asked to support the movement. The sub-committee had thought that that was not the correct procedure, in the circumstances. Mr Douglas Spedding added that the members of the Eastern District Sub-union had stated that they had no complaint regarding their treatment by the Otago Union It was recognised, however, that the subunion players were not good enough to get into an Otago team and that they would have a better chance of a game with a North Otago side. The members of the deputation were thanked and their report adopted.
