CATERING AT OAMARU RACES
TO CHE EDITOR Sir, —1 admire verj much the letter relative to the catering on the Oamaru racecourse. Both clubs certainly had reasons to complain of the catering at the races, but would your reporter just take a glimpse at this so-called up-to-date kitchen and its appointments and judge if it was possible to serve crowds at meal time? Yes. the clubs made the caterers pay.' and I have before me a letter from the Oamaru Jockey Club to its late caretaker. Mr R. Smith, asking him to pay for four dozen empty beer bottles, picked up in the stewards' stand, valued at Bs. I have the receipt also, so you sec, Sir, that the caterers’ tender \Vas not the only way through which the clubs swelled their f mds.—l am, etc.. Plain Fact. Oamaru. October 18.
