PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society was held on Friday, when there were present Lady Sidey (in the chair), Mesdames Sandford Cox, Barnett, Black, Hanan, W. Wilson, Williams, J. B. Dawson, Mandeno, A. Begg, Clapperton, T. Brown, Stanley Paris, Cairney, D. Reid, Cleghorn, Cunninghame, Watson and Gillon (Mosgiel), Misses Downie Stewart and N. Reid (honorary secretary). The committee passed a very cordial vote of thanks to the committee of the Timaru branch of the society for a generous donation of £7 towards the funds of the Truby King-Harris Hospital. Visiting committees to the Truby King-Harris Hospital for the month of November were arranged as follows:—Wednesday, November 4, at 2.30 p.m.—-Mesdames J. A. Hanan and Mandeno. Thursday, November 19, at 11 a.m.—Mesdames R. S. Black, Stanley Paris, and Thomas Brown.

The matron of the Truby KingHarris Hospital reported as follows for the month ended September 30: —Patients admitted—mothers 8, babies 16; patients discharged—mothers 9, babies 20; largest number in residence on any one day;— mothers 5, babies 25. Patients were admitted from the following districts:—Owaka, Kaitangata, Waimate, Palmerston, and from Dunedin and suburbs. Visitors for the month numbered 376. The annual lectures to groups of medical students were held during the month and lectures to home science students were in progress. The following commenced a course of training as Karitane nurses during the month:—Misses Margaret Porritt (Canterbury), Mary Pavletich (Hakataramea), Dorothy Norrie (Timaru), and Mary Lyth (Dunedin).

The following is a summary of the work of the Plunket nurses in Dunedin and suburbs for the month of September:—Babies on the list, 1682; older children oh the list, 618; new cases for the month (babies only), 90; babies breast-fed (including partly) new cases, 77; visits paid to homes, 1315; visits paid to Plunket rooms—mothers 1799, babies 1584, older children 309; outstations visited—Mosgiel, Green Island, Abbotsford, Burnside, Outram, Port Chalmers, St. Leonards, Maia, Havensbourne, Palmerston, Waikouaiti, Dunback, and Middlcmarch.
