LABOUR IN AMERICA

THE PRE-ELECTION REPORT ATTITUDE TO CANDIDATES (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright) WASHINGTON, Oct. 18. ‘ The American Federation of Labour made public yesterday the quadrennial pre-election report to 33,000 local unions and 110 national and international unions adhering to the non-partisan political policy, admonishing them to stand - faithfully by their friends and elect them. The report found President Roosevelt’s record from 1911, when he was a member of the New York State Senate to the Presidential incumbency, favourable in' the cause of organised labour. As State senator he favoured 27 Labour measures, as Governer 21, and as President 47. Governor Landon’s record as Kansas Governor was not given, but a speech was cited in which he said he favoured Labour’s right.to organise without interference by any source.

A comparison between the platforms of the two major parties showed that both omitted measures advocated by Labour, including a shorter work day and compensation for technological unemployment. Mr Garner’s 28-year record showed 11 votes favourable and 18 unfavourable to Labour.
