WATERFRONT LABOUR

REPLACEMENT OF NON-UNIONISTS LATTER SEEK MEMBERSHIP (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. A topic of interest on the waterfront at Wellington is the new system for the replacement of nonunion men bv members of the union who have finished a job and are willing to transfer to replace nonunion men. The change has been made as a result of a decision by the National Disputes Committee, and the men outside the union are complaining that they are not only debarred from joining the union, but that the new regulations are placing them in an invidious nosition.

They have organised not as a separate union, but with the hope that, by united action, they may improve their position. Their specific request is that the union should admit to membership about 300 men who are at present seeking work on the wharves under non-union conditions.
