The King has approved the creation of the’office of Chief Royal Engineer of the Corps of Royal Engineers, andl the appointment thereto of General 1 -Sir Bindon Blood, colonel commandrint of the Royal Engineers. The creation of the office of Chief Royal Engineer restores the Royal Engineers”/old military appointment, originally ■ styled Chief Engineer of the Kingdom, which existed from the Restoration down to its abolition in 1)808. The holder of the appointment was the titular head of the corps.
