At the age of 90, Mrs Lydia Anne Browning is an inveterate swimmer. She astonished residents on arriving at Columbia, South Carolina, by inquiring where the nearest swimming pool was situated, and within a few hours of her arrival the old lady went for a swim, clad in a modern swimming suit. Asked her opinion of “ onepiece ” bathing suits, Mrs Browning declared: “I guess the present styles are in keeping with the times.” Mrs Browning’s husband served in the Civil War.
