GUARANTEED PRICES

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l have read with much interest the letters recently published about guaranteed prices. What I would like to know is, whether Mr Taylor really believes that he could run a 50-cow farm in keeping with his budget. If so. I consider he is much too brainy to be wasting his time in farming. My own life-time experience has shown me that it is almost impossible to say a year ahead what a man’s expenses are going to be for that period, as the unforeseen invariably occurs. Further, if Mr Taylor thinks the majority of farmers agree with him I would ask him not to deceive himself. I have not yet heard one farmer say that he agrees with him and his budget; but I have heard many agree in full with Messrs Bradfleld, Clark, and Renton. I do not know Mr Renton, but from his writings I am quite prepared to believe that he is a practical farmer and that his budget is sound in detail. If Mr Taylor is such a firm believer in guaranteed prices, it is a great pity for him that the Labour Party did not come into power a few years ago.—l am, etc., Butterfat. Otekura. October 14.
