SUNDAY SERVICES

The,Rev. N. E. Oakley, 8.A., will preach at Knox Church in the morning. The Rev. D. C. Herron, M.A., will conduct the evening service, his subject being “The Limitations of Short Cuts.” The Rev. W. Allen Stevely will conduct the services at First Church. His subjects will be, in the morning, “ The Greatest Thing,” and, in the evening, “ The Whole Armour of God.” The music will include the duet “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross ” and the anthem “ Jerusalem.” Dr V. E. Galway will be the organist. To-morrow is spring flower day at the United Congregational Church, Albany street. “Glories and Hopes of Spring” is to be the topic at the morning service, when Miss Jean Calder will be the soloist. The subject for the evening service is "Champion of Champions: The Plant of Renown.” During this service solos will be rendered by Miss Mavis Johnston and Master Bruce Gray. In St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church the preacher at the morning service will be Dr J. D. Salmond, director of Youth Work in the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. The Rev. Thomas Miller will be the preacher at the evening service, his subject being “Love is Strong as Death.” On Wednesday evening at 7.30 the Sunday school concert will be held in the hall, Howe street. The Right Rev. H. H. Barton, M.A. moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, will conduct the eighty-fourth anniversary services in the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church to-morrow. At the Theosophical Society there will be an Indian evening. Mr J. A. Brailsford (W.E.A. tutor) will lecture on the Indian poet, Tagore, one of whose plays, “ Ama and Vinayaka,” will be staged in full Indian costumes. There will be special music." At the Hanover Street Baptist Church the Sunday school anniversary services will be held to-mor-row. The preachers for the day will be: 11 a.m., the Rev. J. K. Reid (of North-East Valley Baptist Church); 2.45 p.m., the Rev. C. G. Hedley Bycroft (of United Congregational Church); 6.30 p.m., the Rev. J. Ewen Simpson. The singing will be conducted by Mr Val Drew, the pianist being Miss M. Shrimpton and the organist Mr Upton Harvey. The feature of this year’s anniversary will be found in the special selection of hymns and songs to be presented, among which will be “ The Lost Chord,” “ The Star of Bethlehem,” “ Jerusalem,” and “ Alleluia.” An added attraction at the evening service will be the presence of the scholars from the Sunshine Baptist Sunday School, who will bring the total choir strength „o 200 voices. The services at the Salvation Army, Dowling street, to-morrow will be conducted by Adjutant and Mrs Mahaffie. In the happly hour gathering in the afternoon at 3 o’clock Mrs G. Allen, who has spent 40 years in Bolivia, will give an interesting lecture on that land. The services at Trinity Methodist Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev. E. B. Chambers, of Invercargill. The evening anthem will be “Hark, the Vesper Hymn.” A solo will be rendered by Miss Nita Partridge. Mr G. E. Wright, of London, who, with his wife, is touring the world’ in the interest of Spiritualism, will conduct the service at the Spiritualist Church. He will give an inspirational address, which will be followed by clairvoyant messages from Mrs Wright. On Monday, at 8 o’clock, the healing centre will meet, and on Thursday, at 8 o’clock, Mrs Wright will give an address entitled “ My Psychic Experiences in the Seance Room,” and also clairvoyance. The services at the Methodist Central Mission will be conducted in the morning by tile Rev. C. Duncan and in the evening the Rev. Leslie B. Neale will conduct the service. The soloist at this service will be Miss Estelle Burnard.
