EXTENSION OF STRIKE

BARGEES IN FRANCE RIVER TRAFFIC AT STANDSTILL PARIS, Oct. 14. A grave warning has been issued by the Union of Petroleum Suppliers that Paris is threatened with a famine in petrol, coal and newsprint, owing to the sudden extension of the bargees' strike. Canal and river traffic to Paris is at a standstill. Barricades of boats were drawn across the waterways by the strikers, and Paris is isolated by water. Bakeries and factories lack fuel. Petrol refineries at Le Havre and Rouen with a stoppage of work, as it is impossible to dispose of the production.
