DEFENCE LEAGUE

A NATIONAL ORGANISATION MEETING OF BRANCH DELEGATES . ■ ■ . /■,/# (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. With a view to establishing the New Zealand Defence League on a national basis, a provisional meeting of delegates from various branches already formed was held at Wellington to-day. ,; ; Mr W. Perry, who presided, said the mission of the league was to educate public opinion, which, despite the serious situation, would be a long and difficult task. The object of the meeting was to lay the foundations of. the league and establish the organisation on a thoroughly democratic and national basis throughout the Dominion. The meeting decided that the headquarters should be in Wellington. Mr Perry was appointed provisional Dominion president, branches in each of the four main centres each to elect a vice-presi-dent. The provisional executive is Messrs Perry, W. H. Barnard, E. E. Muir and E. Gorton, the last-named of whom is the honorary secretary.
