NOTES FROM MELBOURNE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. Conditions were ideal at. Caulfield for the gallops. On the grass next the rails Talking covered seven furlongs in lmin 29fsec. Assisted by Again. Talking covered the first four furlongs in 49~4sec. Twenty feet out, Pamelus was better than One Whetu over seven furlongs in lmin 29Jsec. The Chanter finished strongly to beat Dark Sky over a mile in lmin 43$sec. the last four furlongs being done in 50sec. Shakespeare did a mile comfortably in lmin 51|sec. and Beechwood seven furlongs in lmin 305 sec. North Wind beat Cardo over 10 rurlongs in 2min 14.5 sec. On the sand Silver Standard beat Prince Sion over six furlongs in lmin 18sec. Charles Fox did five furlongs in lmin 4sec.
