SEAT TAKEN IN HOUSE SWEARING-IN CEREMONY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. The new Government member for Manukau (Mr A. C. Osborne) to-day took his seat in the House of Representatives. The by-election in Manukau as a result of which Mr Osborne entered Parliament as successor to the present High Commissioner (Mr W J. Jordan), was held only a week ago today, but the speedy return of the writ enabled nim to present himself promptly as a member of Parliament At the opening of to-day's sitting the Speaker (Mr W. E Barnard) read the formal declaration of Mr Osborne't election, and then the new membei. accompanied by the two Government Whips—Mr J. O'Brien (Westland) ami Mr A. S. Richards (RoskilD—advanced to the Speaker's chair to take the oath and subsequently to sign the records. There was applause as he was conducted to the seat on the cross benches, which he is to share with Mr A. G. Hulquist (Govt., Bay of Plenty).
