TOWED BACK TO JALUIT
JAPANESE SCHOONER REGINA CREW'S TERRIBLE ORDEAL (Special to Daily Times; AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. Advice that the Japanese schooner Regina, which reached Nauru Island on September 6 with her complement of 22 Marshall Islanders on the verge of collapse through lack of food, had been towed on her return voyage to Jaluit, in the Marshall Group, has been received in Auckland. The Regina reached Nauru from the Marshalls after nearly eight weeks of seaching for land, and one of the passengers who had refused rations to save the lives of his adopted children subsequently died. The owners of the schooner, the Nanyo Boyeki Kaisha, sent the motor ship Seikai Maru to repatriate the Marshall Islanders who were passengers on the schooner and to tow the vessel back to Jaluit. The Seikai Maru arrived at Nauru on September 18, end the Marshall Islanders, who had been recovering from the effects of their ordeal were placed on board her. All except one woman, who was still very weak, were in good health when the motor ship left with the schooner in tow.
