BADMINTON UNION

A proposal advanced by Mr J. Owens, the organiser of the badminton tournament held on Saturday night, was given concrete form at a meeting on Tuesday night of delegates from unaffiliated badminton clubs in and around Dunedin. The representatives, dealing with the suggestion, decided to form an association to be known as the Dunedin Badminton Union. Delegates from four clubs—Mosgiel, Kaikoral, Y.M.C.A., and Momington—attended, and the following officers were appointed:—President, Mr J. Owens (Mosgiel); secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Nicol (Momington); committee—Mr Gilchrist (Kaikorai), Mr D.' Pickard (Momington), and Mr R. Parry (Mosgiel). It was decided that the affiliation fee be 5s per club. The secretary was instructed to write thanking the respective secretaries of the Dunedin Twenty and United Badminton Clubs for the use of their courts for the tourney. It was resolved—" That a social evening be held, and that the opportunity be then taken to present each section winner in last Saturday's tournament with a memento." Votes of thanks were passed to the tournament' officials, and Messrs W. Nicholson and R. Innes (Y.M.C.A.) were specially thanked for their excellent secretarial and organising work. The newly-ap-pointed committee will meet again next Tuesday, and it is anticipated that a small credit balance will be available to serve as the nucleus of the union's funds.
