CLERICAL WORKERS
MANUFACTURERS' SECTION CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS (Pek United Prsss Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. The manufacturers' section of the Wellington clerical workers' dispute was resumed in the Conciliation Council before the , commissioner (Mr M. J. Reardon) "to-day. The question of wages was held over in the meantime and discussion proceeded on the condit ; ons of employment. It was agreed that there should be no reduction in wages or the discharge of 'any employee in order that the work might be done by a lower p? (' worker. Every casual worker is to be paid 20 per cent, above the weekly rate. Nothing in the award is to apply to executive officers receiving more than £4OO per annum. No major clauses were agreed to. The wages, together with the hours of work and holidays' clauses were referred to the Arbitration Court for settlement. The proceedings commenced last Thursday.
