WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH
COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING At last night's monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council there were present the Mayor (Mr A. Smith), Crs J. M. Kay, J. L. Page, P. H. Davis, E. L. Monk, F. H. Hudson, J. Robb. W. Forgie and F. W. Vrnn. MOTION OF SYMPATHY A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr W. Booth was carried in the customary manner. CORRESPONDENCE The Commissioner of Transport wrote'forwarding particulars of the new speeds for heavy motor vehicles and of the draft traffic regulations. —The letter was received, and it was decif'-d to protest against the speed for heavy motor vehicles as being excessive on the DunedinRr.vensbourne road. The secretary of the St. Leonards School Committee wrote applying for an unemployed man to carry out work on the school grounds.— Granted. The secretary of the Ravensbourne Cricket Club wrote applying for assistance from the council.— The clerk reported that two men wer at present employed in putting the grounds in good condition. The Director-general of the Post and Telegraph Departm .t advised that last year's health stamp campaign reaiised £11,793 18s Bd, and that this year's campaign would be commenced on November 2. He appealed to the council to assist the scheme as much as possible this vear. —It was decided to buy £2 worth of the stamps. The secretary of the Municipal Association advised that the next conference would be held in Timaru on March 9, and that all remits should be forwarded b> November 21.—Received. The health inspector reported that there had been one case of scarlet fever in Ravensbourne during the month.—Noted. .FINANCE COMMITTEE The Finance Committee reported that the expenditure for the month totalled £769 19s 9d and the receipts £IOO3 8s Id. A debit balance of £134 19s 2d remained. The report was adoDted, and accounts amounting to £243 Is 5d were passed for payment. INSPECTOR'S REPORT The inspector (Mr W. Connor) reported as follows on work carried out in the borough during the past month. The fence has been erected ■ and the road partly formed at Bell's property Repairs have been effected to the road at Blanket Bay, Burkes and Maia, and the potholes have been filled in from the quarry to Cook's and St Leonards. View street, Burkes, has been finished and •?ome of the side streets have also been cleaned at Burkes, at St. Leonards and on the main road from Burkes to Maia. The culvert at Thornicroft's has been repaired, and the paddock of Smith's cleaned Work is going on in Manuka street and Ravensbourne road and Hill street is being cleaned. The footpath has been repaired in District road. The drain at Montague street h;is been repaired The following work remains to be done as passed by the council:—The drains are to be laid at Ascog road and Burkes Concrete walls are to be erected in the creek at St Leonards and at the Recreation Ground. The roadway into the Recreation Ground is to be done The Fire Brigade shed has to be erected The road into Bell's is to be continued The St Leonards School ground remains to be graded The renor* wn? nH.mrpd
