PAREMATA BRIDGE
FIRST ACCIDENT ON NEW ROAD (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. " I am determined to improve the highways of this country, and to widen them and cut out dangerous zig-zagging climbs wherever possible," said the Minister of Transport (Mr R, Semple) at the opening of Paremata Bridge. Mr Semple said the proposed road from Plimmerton to Paekakariki would cost £200,000, and there would be 300 or 400 men working before many months. A few hours after the opening of the bridge the first smash occurred half a mile away between two motor cars. One of the vehicles was badly damaged, but no one was hurt.
