CAR-PARKING REGULATIONS
TO I'HE EDITOR Sir,—Some remarkable letters have appeared in the press from time to time, but I doubt if anything more stupid has been written than the one in Saturday's issue signed "A Fly." If the complainant holds a licence to drive a motor car he must know that parking over a fireplug is absolutely prohibited. If he is not conversant with the regulations, surely common sense would indicate the danger of covering- up so important an article as a plug which is intended for use in case of fire, and how anyone can complain that the plugs are not sufficiently indicated passes my comprehension. Does "A Fly " consider that he has the right to run his car across the pavement and leave it there be cause there is no notice that this must not be done? What he expects the Automobile Association to do would be interesting; the members of that bodv have too much intelligence to interfere in such a matter—l am, etc., Not a Road Hog.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—With your, correspondent who wrote under the nom de plume of "A Fly," may I, as a second unsuspecting victim, register my protest against the action of certain officials in respect to parking over fire plugs. Like your previous correspondent, I parked my car in Princes street, and a few minutes afterwards I was informed that I was breaking a by-law, and liable to prosecution. There is certainly a white ring drawn around the fire plug, but no notice such as "no parking" or "keep off." Surely it would be a simple matter to have this done immediately, as the present hieroglyphics convey nothing to the average motorist.—l am, etc., Another Fly.
