SOLD TO YOUNG PEOPLE RESTAURANT-KEEPERS FINED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 2. The purchase of drink on three occasions by police officers, followed by a search of the premises occupied by the Persian Garden Restaurant in Wellington street, was described when the proprietress and her husband and an employee appeared before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.,‘ in the Police Court, There was a total of eight charges alleging offences against the licensing laws. The restaurant was described by Sub-inspector Scott, who prosecuted, as “ a moral menace ” through men taking young women to drink there. The defendants, for whom Mr Schramm appeared, altered their pleas from not guilty to guilty after hearing the police evidence. Mrs Macgregor, the pronrietress, was fined £lO, her husband £IOO, and an employee named Curry £2.
