BALCLUTHA Bobby Calves The price for “ bobby ” calves in this district has been advanced to 10s on truck, Stirling, and 9s on the farm. These are the highest prices yet paid for these animals. Horse Sale The Associated Auctioneers held a successful horse sale at the corporation yards yesterday. The demand for draughts was particularly keen, and aged work horses sold readily at from £2O to £25. Top price of £54 10s was got for a five-year-old gelding, on behalf of Mr J. Laughton, Waipahi. A four-year-old gelding realised £47 10s; a four-year-old mare £44 10s. Two nice springcarters brought £35 and £2B 10s; aged draught gelding £ls; aged mare £2O. WAIKOUAITI St. John’s Vicarage St. John’s vicarage, Waikouaiti, was the scene of a very large gathering of women of the congregation on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs Button entertained at afternoon tea. There was a business as well as a social side to the party, and the prospects of the forthcoming bazaar were discussed, and plans considered for the disposal of some valuable donations of goods which have been delivered. KUROW Rifle Shooting The final official shoot of the Kurow Miniature Rifle Club was held on Tuesday last, when there was a good attendance of members. E. S. Wills was the winner of the button off the rifle, and the trophy given by Mr F. Todd was won by K. Robinson. In the teams’ shoot the holders again annexed the " dogs.” Results were as follows: —T. Sanders 74, B. T. Appleby 70, J. R. Jackson 75, G. Wates 75; total, 294. The following were the highest scores:—E. S. Wills 77, G. Donald 76. A. C. J. Robinson 76, J. R. Jackson 75, A. Fuller 75, G. The Rainfall The rainfall for the month of September was 91 points (three days’ rain), as compared with 18 points for the same month last year. Kurow Lawn Tennis Club The annual meeting of the Kurow Lawn Tennis Club was held on Monday last, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mr A. W O’Reilly (vice-president) presided. An outstanding feature mentioned in the report was the result of the recent Queen Carnival, the sum of £69 having been raised. The winner was the Lawn Tennis Queen. Miss Zela M’Kinnon. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr A. H. M’Kinnon (reelected); vice-presidents—Mesdames J. R. Jackson, A. Valentine, G. M’Aughtrie, Miss B. Opening day was fixed for October 17, when a Yankee tournament will be held. ALEXANDRA New Year’s Day Sports A meeting of the Alexandra Caledonian Society was held last week, but as the interest in the affairs of the society appeared to be lacking, as neither a president nor secretary was elected, the meeting decided that the society be disbanded. The thought of the New Year’s Day sports going out of existence, however, caused another meeting to be held on Thursday evening, when Mr J. A. Russell, convener, presided over a large attendance. It was unanimously decided at this meeting that the Alexandra Amateur Athletic Club be formed and that the sports on New Year’s Day would be held. The following office-bearers were elected:—Patrons. Mr W. Bringans and Dr A. E. Gladstone: president, Mr James Wing; vice-presidents—Messrs Henry Hesson, W. H. King, W. Carline, jun., D. Provan, B. Provo, and W. A. Lloyd Williams; secretary, Mr J. A.
