SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS SEVERAL DUNEDIN SUCCESSES (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 1 The South Island National Daffodil Show, held in conjunction with the Invercargill Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, was opened to-day. From many parts of the South Island and also from the North Island members of the National Daffodil Society sent blooms to the show, which, from the point of view of both entries and quality, is a great success. The national entries number about 130, a total which eclipses those at any previous National Show held in the South Island apart from those at Christchurch and Dunedin. The judge (the Rev W. W. Avery) said that for quality the winning exhibits compared favourably with those shown at the Auckland show. The champion of champions bloom was a Rewa variety shown by Mi R. Dick (Oamaru). The major awards were won as follows: — Wilson Perpetual Challenge Cup.—A. Gibson (Marton). , _ . . , Canterbury Horticultural Society s Challenge Cup.—G. H.
