VAGRANCY CHARGE

COMMUNIST CANDIDATE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY MONTREAL, Oct. 1 (Received Oct. 2, at 0.30 a.m.) A message from Terre Haute, Indiana, states that Mr Browder, the Communist candidate for the Presidency, was arrested to-day and charged with vagrancy. His four colleagues, including Waldo Frank, the novelist, were also arrested. The Mayor, Mr Beecher, who is a Republican, stated that he will not allow Communism to be established in Terre Haute. Governor Landon and President Roosevelt recognise that Communism is a menace to the nation.
