WAVERLEY RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A largely-attended meeting of the Waverley Ratepayers and Householders’ Association was held at Waverley on Tuesday evening. Mr W. V. Sturmer (president) presided. The formation of Beach street again came up for discussion, in reply to a letter from the Peninsula County Council, stating that, owing to the impossibility of providing a satisfactory grade, the proposed work could not be carried out in the meantime.—The secretary was instructed to write to the county council pointing out that a survey of the work revealed that if a cutting 4ft 6in deep was put in the crest of the hill it would provide the road with a grade that compared favourably with other roads in the district. He was also instructed to ask that Abbotsford, Larnach, and Shannon roads (the main roads of the district) be surfaced. This matter caused considerable discussion, some of the members stating that worse roads could not be found in the back-country districts. The president pointed out that Waverley Bay had become a popular swimming resort, and he moved —“ That the Harbour Board be written to. asking it to clear up the bay and place a few loads of sand in it. At present it was verv dangerous owing to a number of broken piles.”—The motion was earned.
