RANFURLY Goif ; The opening of the newly-formed Golf Club was held at Paerau on Saturday. The weather, though cold, was quite pleasant for play and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The members of this new club are to be congratulated op their enterprise in forming such excellent links among beautiful surroundings. There was a large number of visitors present, including members from the Ranfurly and Orangapai Clubs as well as others from surrounding districts. Mr John Aitken, president of the club, welcomed the visitors, Mr M'Killop responding. Mr Peter Aitken, patron of the club, played the first ball off the tee and declared the links opened. A Mixed Foursome was played, and after a closely-contested game, Mrs G. Manson and Mr D. M’Killop proved the winners. Rifle Shooting The Ranfurly Miniature Rifle Club held a novelty shoot on Monday night. Each member nominated his own handicap with the usual penalty for over-handicapping, and marking was given only tor the two sighters. D. Lonie proved the winner after a series of shoot-offs. An average of 75.1 for the first 10 men was registered. The best scores were: J. C. Kearney 79, J. E. Kearney 78. D. Lonie 77, W. Pringle 76, R. Weir 75, J. Cromb 76, G. Gilbert 75, A. Carson 74, J. P. Kearney 72. Next Monday night will be the concluding shoot of the season. Kycburn Club Nineteen riflemen took part in the weekly shoot of the Kyeburn Club on Monday night last. The average of the first 10 men was 74.2. V. O’Neill, with a good score of 78, was the winner of the Preston rifle button and W. M. Creighton was the winner of the Hislop handicap button. The best scores were as follows: —V. O’Neill 78, E. W. Strode 76, W. Creighton 75, P. R. Wilson 75, A. Griffiths 75, D. Hore 74, J. M. Griffiths 73, R. J. Wilson 73, W. W. Pearson 72, A. J. Strode 71, J. M. Crutchley 71, C. M. Pearson 71. A novelty self handicap shoot for a trophy presented by the secretary resulted in a win for E. W. Strode. In spite of a cold breeze which made conditions unpleasant for the spectators there was a large attendance present and some good, fast games were witnessed. ALEXANDRA Rifle Shooting The weekly shoot of the Alexandra Rifle Club was held on Monday evening, the gold and silver buttons being won by C. N. Sorrell. Other scores were as follows:—C. N. O’Neill 74, Lawn Tennis The annual meeting of the Alexandra' Lawn Tennis Club was held on Wednesday evening, the president, Mr J. R. Earwaker, presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report showed the club to have had a successful season, and the finances were in a sound position, the year finishing with a credit of £3O 9s 3d. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J, R. Earwaker; vice-presidents—Messrs R. E. M’Lay, J. H. Hart, and Mrs J. D. Watt; secretary and treasurer, Mr A, M. Rivers; auditor, Mr R. Hewitt; Men’s Committee—president, secretary, and Messrs B. Robson and C. N. Sorrell; Ladies’ Committee —Misses S. Cameron, N. O’Kane, L. Sorrell, A. M’Donald, and J. M’Kissock; delegates to Vincent Lawn Tennis Sub-associa-tion, Messrs J. R. Earwaker and A. M. Rivers; delegates to Reserves Committee, Messrs J. R. Earwaker and A. H. Rivers. The subscriptions for the year were fixed as follows:—Men £1 2s 6d and women 15s, reducible to £1 and 12s 6d if paid by November 30; school children 2s 6d. Opening day was fixed for October 10, and it was also decided to obtain buttons for competition amongst club members. The delegates to the annual meeting of the Vincent Sub-association were instructed to submit the following remit:—"That it is the strong desire of the Alexandra Lawn Tennis Club that there be two sections in the sub-asso-ciation’s competition for the Kernohan Cup, and that the matches be arranged for everj' alternate Saturday." Croquet Club The annual meeting of the Alexandra Croquet Club was held on Tuesday evening. The annual report and balance sheet showed the club to have had a very successful season. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs A. E. Ruff; vice-presidents—Mesdames J. A. O’Kane, M. M’Grath and W. R. Lloyd Williams: secretary, Mrs J. H. Rivers, who has been spending a holiday with her son at “The Downs,” Becks, has returned to Alexandra. Dr and Mrs G. Orbell are at present on a visit to Alexandra, and are th« guests of Mr and Mrs J. J. O’Kane. Mr and Mrs M. M’Grath have returned from a holiday spent in Australia.
