DRIVEN OUT BY BOOKS

Mr Ernest Brown, the British Minister of Labour, has had to move into a bigger house, in Camden road, London, to accommodate his library of 11,000 volumes. In the last few years Mr Brown's collection of books of all kinds—from fiction to advanced works of theology—increased at such a rate in his former flat in Rosebery avenue that at regular intervals carpenters had to be called in to erect new shelves. Starting in one room, the books gradually spread to the dining room, sitting room, store cupboards, and into the passages. There were even some in the bathroom! A large furniture van was necessary to transport them from the flat to the new house. Mr Brown has one of the most valuable collections of books of any member of Parliament.
