ARAB TERRORISM

STEPS FOR SUPPRESSION MORE BRITISH TROOPS ARRIVE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 28. The Government, in to-morrow night’s London Gazette, will announce new powers for the authorities in Palestine. They are expected to include martial law in certain districts. Acts of terrorism continue. It is reported from Jerusalem that the Iraq pipeline was again set on fire. New troops, numbering 1450, have arrived at Haifa. RESPONSE BY RESERVISTS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Sept. 28. (Received Sept. 29, at 5.5 p.m.) The prompt manner in which the reservists of the section of the army reserve, who were recently called up for service in connection with reinforcing the garrison at Palestine, reported for duty is the subject of a statement issued by the War Office. The calling up notices were received at the earliest by the rese. vists on Saturday morning, September 5. Less than 48 hours later no fewer than 70 per cent, had enlisted for duty at their regimental depots and by September 10 the total of reservists who rejoined was 99 per cent. The men were scattered throughout the British Isles and it is considered -hat the figures bear witness to the excellent spirit of the reservists. Only 2 per cent, were found medically unfit and these only temporarily so on account of injuries or illness.
