DOMINION GOVERNMENT

RAPID ENACTMENT OF POLICY COMMENT IN FINANCIAL NEWS LONDON, August 19. (Received August 19, at 11.30 p.m.) The Financial News says: " With less dramatic European events the experiments which the Savage Government is making in New Zealand would have commanded considerable interest. Actually Mr Savage has accomplished something like a revolution in New Zealand affairs without arousing any real discussion in Britain. Moreover, he enacted his policy with a rapidity second only to that of M. Blum and an effectiveness second to none. New Zealand is at present prosperous, and while the exports expand there should be no question of New Zealand's credit status. On the other hand although Mr Savage ostensibly does not intend to follow the footsteps of Mr Lang his views may change if a depression again hits New Zealand. In short, the Savage Government, in time of prosperity, is unlikely to bother the British investor, but when a depression comes the story may be quite different."
