LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION
The Otago Council of the League of Nations Union met in the board room of the Presbyterian Social Service by the courtesy of the association. Mr H. P. Kidson presided. Correspondence submitted included a letter from the London L.N.U. referring to the pleasure in meeting Miss M. M. Black, of Areherfield, together with the arrangements made for her to attend meetings in connection with the society during her stay in London. Miss Valentine reported on the meeting of the Mayor's Centennial Commemoration Committee, which she and Miss Blackmore had attended. The Ladies' Committee would be asked to function for three years and a-half, but Miss Blackmore could not pledge herself to this extent. In her place, Mrs Leech was appointed, and, with Miss Valentine, to be the official representatives of the organisation. They were not to pledge the council in any way, however. Mr Oliver Begg reported on behalf of the sub-committee on the Publication Department of the Otago branch. The report was favourable, and stress was laid on the small but very valuable collection of books on the work of the League itself. Evidence was to hand showing that considerable use has been made by many sections of the citizens. . The rest of the evening was devoted to consideration of the agenda for the forthcoming conference in Wellington next month, to which three delegates were appointed.
