A BAND ROTUNDA FOR FRIENDLY BAY

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir—l have been interested to read of the effort being made by the Friendly Bay Committee and the local banns to erect a band rotunda on the bay. i icel sure that most residents will f.gret that this will supply a longfelt need. The bay is becoming increashuij popular anu the work ol the committee in beautifying the surroundings is appreciated by all. I have been told that the cost of the projected rotunda will be in the vicinity of £l5O. This seems a very modest figure, yet when it has to be raised by collections at band concerts, it may bo difficult enough to obtain. When I read of the magnificent gilts made"to other towns by public-spirited citizens, I wonder if there is someone m Oamaru able and willing to help in the improvement of our town by presenting this rotunda to the citizens. Most of us support the annual carnival on the bay as much as we arc able, because we realise what an ideal playground it is for the children; but the money so raised must be retained tot maintenance work. Probably there is someone who would be pleased to make a gift of tins rotunda, and merely needs the suggestion that such a gift might be made. I am sure he would earn the gratitude of the citizens.—l am, etc., Oamaru. Seaside.
