LAWN TENNIS

KAHUNA CLUB The annual meeting of the Kaituna Lawn Tennis Club was held last evening in the Somerset Lounge, Mr R. H. C. Galbraith, president, being in the chair. Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the president referred to the very satisfactory performances of the teams. The men's A Grade team had won seven out of nine matches, the Intermediate team nine out of 11, and the C Grade had won six, drawn one, and lost one. On the year's working there was a loss of £l3, due partly to the erection of a fence and a volley board, and the expenditure on balls. Mr Parker, in seconding the motion, referred to the need for finding finance for the top-dressing of two of the courts. He regarded the youngest team's showing to be a good omen for the future of the club. Mr Phillipps considered the finances to be in a very satisfactory state in view of the items of non-recurring expenditure in the balance sheet. He complimented the secretary and the treasurer upon the well-set-out balance sheet and the fact that there were no outstanding subscriptions. The reports were adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. W. Parker; vice-president, Mr W. Sherriff; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr E. L. Hope; auditor, Mr J. C. Anderson; committee—Miss A. Morrell, Miss E. Henderson, Messrs W. R. Sinclair, R. F. Phillipps, R. Barron; delegates to Otago Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs A. T. Jensen and R. F. Phillipps. It was decided to offer again free membership to two pupils from each of the Otago Boys' and Girls' High Schools. Rule 4 was amended to provide that the committee should consist of a president, immediate past-president, a vicepresident, secretary and treasurer, and five other members, including two ladies. The club championship cups were presented to Miss Maud Jolly and Mr T. Callender. It was decided to declare the season open from August 29, but to hold the official opening on October 3.
