REMANDS GRANTED Victor Royden Curline, 33 years of age, was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling house of Lewis Henry Dear and stealing goods to the value of £lO 17s.—On the application of Chief Detective Young a remand was granted until next Wednesday. ( • Henry Nicoll, alias Harry Nicoll, alias Cooper, aged 28, pleaded guilty to stealing goods of a total value of £6, the property of Ronald Stuart. -Chief Detective Young stated that a constable saw #ie accused walk up and down a street in Caversham and then take a suitcase from a car. He chased Nicoll and caught him.—A remand was granted for one week. , , George Edward Kilpatnck, aged 32, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing the sum of £7 in money, the property of Cedric Green.— Chief Detective Young said that the complainant had left the money locked in a box in his room at the hotel where he was employed, and on his return at night had found the money gone. Detectives had interviewed the accused, who was an assistant cook at the same hotel, and he had admitted the offence. Kilpatrick had now lost his position. —The magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in custody for one week, to enable the probation officer to make a report. UNLAWFULLY IN HOUSE John Harold Denton, aged 20, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found in a house belonging to Alexander Macaulay Kinmont at 35a Leith street on Tuesday without lawful excuse, but in circumstances which did not disclose the commission of, or intention to commit, an offence.—Senior Sergeant Packer said that a constable saw the accused in the house, which was a vacant one. Fittings had been stolen from the house in the past.—Mr Garbutt, the probation officer, said that Denton had not been a very satisfactory probationer. He was lazy, and he associated with undesirables.—The magistrate said that he did not wish to send the accused to gaol, though his conduct had not been satisfactory. He would be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
