CUSTODY OF A CHILD

THE ASTOR CASE SETTLED LOS ANGELES, August 11. (Received August 12, at 10.15 p.m.) Reports of a settlement out of court to-night promised to bring to an end one of the most sensational trials involving prominent kinema stars, Mary Astor apparently proving victorious in her efforts to reverse the court decision which gave custody of her small daughter to her divorced husband, Dr Franklyn Thorpe. It is now understood that the mother and father will both have the youngster for varying periods. , The chief item of testimony was Miss Astor’s private diary, involving the names of prominent playwrights, actors, and men of affairs. The revelations were so intimate that the moving picture industry made strenuous efforts to obtain a settlement of the case, fearing “adverse reaction of the Legion of Decency.”
