SEVENTY-EIGHTH JURA CELEBRATIONS
A general meeting of the descendants of the pioneers of the sailing vessel Jura was held in the Early Settlers’ Hall. The attendance, although not very large, was most enthusiastic, and determined to make the reunion of 1936 even more successful than in the past. The old committee was reelected: —Mr Gladstone Hutton (chairman), Messrs J. A. Paterson, J. H. Fairbairn. J. N. Thompson, John Wilson, Miss N. Hutton, Mrs Naismith, Miss A. Hutton (secretary), with the addition of Mr R. E. Kerr. Mr Hutton thanked the committee, and especially the ladies, for their cooperation and valued assistance in making the functions in the past so successful.
It was decided to hold a special morning church service at First Church on September 20, a reunion of the surviving passengers and descendants on September 23 (Wednesday afternoon), and in the evening a social and dance. Private cars were offered to convey pioneers to and from the functions. It was hoped that those desiring to accept the offer would advise the secretary or Mr Paterson, Early Settlers’ Hall, so that the necessary arrangements could be made for their conveyance.
