A CAREER OF ‘ DISHONESTY THEFT FROM EMPLOYERS (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND. August 12. “At the age of 15 you had a senior national scholarship and a great chance in life, but you have gone wrong,” said Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court to-day when Harold Bradley Brownrigg, a salesman, aged 23. appealed for sentence on two charges of theft. One charge was of stealing £34 10s, the property of W S. Miller and the other was of stealing £5, the property of W. S. Miller and others. When the accused appeared in court previously he admitted keeping money which he had been given to register motor vehicles and to send cablegrams. “I am afraid the trouble is rather deep-seated,” said the magistrate “Your environment has been against you, and I cannot but think that the influence of your home life has been against any sense of honesty you nave You were caught stealing at Whangarei admitted to probation, and ordered to make restitution. Some three years later you finished paying it on and during the time you were paying it you. were stealing from your employer and had been stealing for manv m The S accused’s employer had given him a chance, continued the magistrate, but he had stolen in a particularly clever manner which had caused great loss. If the accused were _ sentenced to a short term of imprisonment it would do no good, as when he came out in a month or so he would be at a loose end. The best thing would be for him to be sent to the Waikena Farm where he would have a steady outdoor life and would be away from temptation. , , , 10 The accused was sentenced to iz months’ reformative detention.
