SIAMESE TWINS
OCCURRENCE UNIQUE IN DOMINION' INFANTS FAIL TO SURVIVE (Per United Press Association) HAMILTON, August 8. A birth, believed to be unparalleled in the history of New Zealand and certainly unusual in the annals of medical history occurred at the Waikato Hospital a week ago to-day, when Siamese twins were born to a young married woman of Hamilton. There were several unusual features of the birth, and although the pair failed to survive, the mother, who was very seriously ill, is now steadily progressing towards recovery. The mother, who is only 22 years of age, has been married for three years and has one child, a boy aged about 18 months. The boy was a very healthy child weighing 6|lb when born. The couple had been in Hamilton only one week prior to the wife’s confinement, having journeyed by car from the south. The twins were attached breastbone to breastbone and were nearly one month premature. They were females and from all appearances were perfect physically.
