RAVENSBOURNE CONGREGATIONALISTS
ANNUAL SOCIAL . ■ : The annual social in connection with the anniversary services of the Ravensbourne Congregational Church was held on Tuesday evening. Pastor J. Sands presided over an attendance that completely filled the church, and in his opening remarks said how pleased he was to see such a large gathering, which showed that the people were taking a keen interest in the church welfare. Ho also made special mention of the presence of friends from the Dunedin, Port Chalmers, and local. churches. Short speeches were made by the Rev. C. H. Bycroft. (United Church, Dunedin), and the Rev. J. Henderson (local Methodist Church), Mr'M’Oall (Moray Place Church, Dunedin), the Mayor of West Harbour (Mr A. Smith), and Mr J, S. Little. Mr W. Barnes spoke on behalf of the lay preachers. The choirmaster (Mr John Connor) had prepared en excellent programme, the following contributing;—ltems by the choir; songs—Messrs I. Butler and H. Paeer, Mieses I, Mussen, V. Ward, and May Connor; duet, Misses M. and R. Connor; quartet—Misses D. Connor, D. Facer, and Messrs John Connor and H. Facer; instrumental quartet—Mrs J. Connor (piano), ■ Messrs Jackson (violin), Connor (flute), and Abernethy (piccolo) ; selection on accordian, Mr Bennet, this item receiving a special round of applause. The annual report was read by the secretary, and showed that the church had experienced a fairly successful year, the attendance at the different services being well maintained. Special mention was made of the ministry of Mr Sands. Although he had only been a few months with them, his good work was having its effect, especially so amongst the young people.
