DEER SLEEPS IN BED

Details of his strange lite were revealed when two agents of the California State Game Commission called to discover why Chicfie was in the house. Mrs Cover opened the door when the agents knocked and cautioned them to tread lightly because the deer was asleep and she was just preparing his coffee. They sat down and waited. Finally, Mrs Cover appeared with a steaming bowl in her hands and beckoned the two men to follow her. They did, and entered a bedroom. There Mrs Cover threw back the bedclothes and revealed the deer, which weighs 17st 121 b, sleeping peacefully. She gently shook the animal, which aroused, shook its antlers, leaped out of bed and drank the coffee —but refused a cigarette. Mrs Cover said she thought the deer could not be feeling well that day because he usually enjoyed a smoke after his breakfast. She produced a licence from Colorado, permitting her to keep the deer, and the agents pronounced it satisfactory.
