FLYING BOAT SERVICE

ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA STARTING WITHIN A YEAR SYDNEY, June 10. The Sydney Morning Herald says the British Government has definitely decided that the flying boat service between London and Sydney will be inaugurated as soon as the new and fast boats now being guilt are available. This, it is anticipated, will he within a year from now. The service contemplates sending ail first-class mail matter between London and Sydney at IJd per Joz without surcharge. Whether Australian letters to London will he at the rate of 2d per ioz or at the surcharge of 4d per Joz has yet to be decided by the Commonwealth Government. At the outset there will he two flying boat services every week between London and Sydney. It is anticipated, however, that within a year of the commencement of that service it will be necessary not only to place larger boats on the route, but to increase the capacity of the boats being used. A direct service from London to Sydney is contemplated independent of the flying boat services between London and Calcutta. The British Government proposes a twiceweekly service between London and Sydney, with an extension as soon as practicable to New Zealand. The British Government lias promised to contribute one-half of the cost of the Syd-ney-New Zealand service, leaving the balance to be defrayed by the Governments of the Commonwealth and New Zealand.
