A large number of YVanganui Maoris are expected to visit Waitara next month for the opening of the now meeting house, which has been erected at a cost exceeding £3OOO. to the memory of the late Sir Maui Pomare. The celebrations will extend over several days, and there will be visitors present from nil parts of the Dominion and from the Chatham Islands and Rarotonga (reports the Wauganui Herald). Up-river Maoris are already planning to extend hospitality to visiting parties who will later join the Wanganui Maoris for the pilgrimage to Waitara. The gathering at Waitara will be the largest since the Waitangi celebrations two years ago.
