DRUIDISM

Arch Druid Bro. Harbour presided over the meeting of Otago Lodge last Monday, when there was a large attendance of members. Correspondence included acknowledgments of sick pay and an invitation from the Royal Arch Chapter for its next meeting. Three candidates were elected, and in a most impressive manner initiated into the Order with a good rendering of the initiation ceremony. Lodge Ivanhoe members in large numbers paid an official visit for the purpose of playing for the euchre shield, and, after some spirited games, suffered defeat by a small margin. Arch Druid Bro. L. A. Symonds presided over the regular meeting of Enterprise Lodge, which was held last Wednesday, when a good attendance of members greeted the arch Druid. Before the business of the evening was commenced Bro. M'Farlane announced the death of one of the oldest members, the lodge going into mourning in respect to the late brother. The birds’ report disclosed that there was still a good amount of sickness prevalent amongst the members, and sick pay amounting to £l3 17s Cd was passed for payment. During the evening five candidates presented themselves for initiation, and the ceremony was carried out by the team for the forthcoming Rose Stewart Shield competition in a very capable manner.

The fortnightly meeting of Ivnnboc Lodge. U.A.0.D., was held on Wednesday last, when A.D. Bro. Dale presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors. Good Intent Lodge has been invited for July J. The lodge decided to abandon the Ross Stewart Shield competition this year. The bards reported on their visit to the sick members and sick pay amounting to £27 was passed for payment. Rro. Wilson gave a report on his visit to West Harbour Lodge and Rio. Rainbow reported on bis visit to Pride of Mornington Lodge. A challenge was issued to Lily of tlie Valley Lodge to play it for the Cribbage Shield.

Bay Lodge U.A.O.D. held its fortnightly meeting on Monday. A ice Arch Druid Bro. J. Wilson presided over an excellent attendance of members, and Ibe visitors present were: —D.P. Bro. W. Leatblcy. G.P. Bro. T. Johnston. P.G. Presidents Bros. C. Jacobson, A. Watson and P.D.P. Bro. D. Kilgour. Considerable correspondence was dealt with; one

from Grand Lodge concerning the Sick and Funeral Fund being of particular interest; an appeal from the Anzac Stamp Campaign was supported and_ a donation made; a paper on “ Membership ” by G.P. Bro. T. Johnston was read. The loyal toasts were given and responded to by D.P. Bro. W. Leathley, who was paying his first official visit to the lodge. Bro. Leathley expressed pleasure at the good attendance of members. P.D.P. Bro. D. Kilgour replied on behalf of Enterprise Lodge and Bro. T. Johnston replied on behalf of West Harbour Lodge and the other visitors present. The lodge adjourned and a pleasant hour was spent in cards by members and visitors.Linden’s Pride held its fortnightly meeting with the following newly-installed officers in their respective chairs: —A.D. Bro. Horsfall, V.A. Bro. A, Clark, Conductor Bro. Harneiss, LG. Bro. Bain, O.G. Bro. Topping. A.D. Bards Bros. Beynolds and Hyslop. V.A. Bards Bros. Laing and Huddart, J.P. Arch Druid Bro. Simpson. The transfers of Bro. Stewart of Pride of the Oak and Bro. Pickering of Pride of the South were accepted and a warm welcome accorded them. •• The balance sheet was presented, and in hie report as auditor P.G.P. Bro. Walker complinfented the lodge on the increased balances shown in the doctor and chemist ami sick and funeral funds, and also on the management in general. Bro. Walker also paid a tribute on behalf of the lodge to .Mr and Mrs J. G. Manning for the niacin? of their home at the disposal of the secretary and : treasurer, and for the comfortable surroundings provided and the many kindnesses shown. The lodge then adjourned for "efficiency’' practice in view of the forthcoming competitions. V '
